Raw materials

The original raw material for loden came from locally-reared mountain sheep. Sheep farming is no longer an important industry in central Europe and so the raw material for loden now comes mainly from Australian, South American or South African flocks.

Merino sheep were introduced to Australia, because there are vast expanses of grazing land. Australia is today the main producer, supplying around 40 percent of the world's wool.

We use mainly extra-fine Australian merino wool for our top-quality loden. As a result we can tag our products with a specially-created label stating that the fabric comes from the world's finest fleeces.
