Nap loden
With nap loden the outer surface is roughened with steel brushes and fuller's teasels and all the fibres are combed in one direction. When the woollen fibres are left to lie in this roof-tile formation, water will drip off easily. A further impregnation is added to the cloth loden to aid water repellence. This pile raising process and the special finish give nap loden a very beautiful gloss (lustre) and a soft feel. That is why it is sometimes called "wedding loden". Special coatings boost the water-repelling qualities of nap loden (e.g. rain loden).
This type of loden is used for coats (e.g. the "Hubertus" hunting jacket) and also for functional outdoor clothing.
